1966 (maybe '67) Vent window removal.
1966 El Camino/ Chevelle Wiper Switch + Wiring (2 speed)
Couldn't find the info, so here's what I found out. I'm sure others are looking for this info.
This is the switch dismantled, I'd narrowed it down to the switch and figured if I had to buy a new one anyways, I might as well figure out why it wasn't working. I'm curious that way.
Yes, the wiper motor and washer motor get 12 volts whenever the key is on, and is then wired to the switch, and they work when the switch grounds to the dash when you turn the knob or push the washer button. So, w/ the key on, you should have 12 volts to each of the terminals on the back of the switch. If not, start looking elsewhere. The motor itself is also grounded (brass tab on one of the mounting screws), which allows the wipers to "park" when you turn off the wiper switch in mid-wipe. So, if your motor stops as soon as you turn off the switch (i.e. wipers don't park), then there's a problem w/ the ground on the wiper motor.
PROBLEM: wipers only worked when pushing in washer button.

In my case, the culprit was that the backing plate was a little loose and the brass plate in the picture wasn't making contact w/ the housing next to it. The housing is peened to hold this plate in, and only the edge of that brass plate touches that lip inside the housing (see red in picture below). Seems like a pretty poor design to me. Since the spring inside pushes in a direction that would push the plate away from the housing, once it got loose, no more contact, no more ground, and therefore, no more wipers (at least not w/o pushing in the button for the washers).
And if you were wondering why you only have wipers when you push in the washer button (it could be alot of things), but if you have 12 volts to the terminals on the switch, I bet you have the same problem described above. Because when you push in the button, it grounds the backing plate (see the green circle) by the fact that the button itself contacts the housing.

Below are my scratchings while diagnosing. Maybe they help, maybe not.The switch positions show continuity or lack there of, b/t the 2 speed terminals. A previous owner put a 1 speed wiper motor in mine, so the black wire (and the 3rd terminal on my switch) is actually useless.
